My Actual Day

What the app reads from your phone

Only when you grant permission for each source, and only the shape described below. Every value is used to compose today's journal draft on your device and is never uploaded or transmitted.

• Location. A single coordinate taken at the moment you open the app, used to name a nearby place. Not a continuous track.
• Photos and videos. Items whose creation date is today. Thumbnails only, generated on-device. Your library is never modified. Screenshots are excluded by default.
• Calendar. Titles, times, and attendee names of events that already started today. Never invite bodies, never past days.
• Health. Today's workouts (start, end, type, distance). Never heart rate, weight, or any non-workout metric.
• Music. Artist and title of songs whose last-played time is today. Never listening history from other days.
• Microphone and speech. Only when you tap the voice-note button. Audio is recorded to a temporary file, transcribed on-device using Apple's Speech framework, and the audio file is deleted immediately after transcription.

Where your data is stored

Every entry, mood, location record, prompt setting, and hidden-photo list is written as a JSON file inside the app's private sandbox on your device (Library/Application Support/com.johncarmack.myactualday/). Removing the app deletes all of it. Nothing is backed up to iCloud unless you have iCloud backup enabled for the entire device, in which case it is stored the same way any other app's data is.

The one network call the app makes

To convert your GPS coordinates into a human-readable place name — "Prospect Park, Brooklyn" instead of "40.660, -73.968" — the app calls Apple's CLGeocoder reverse-geocoding service. Per Apple's documentation, this service does not retain query data or associate it with you. This is the only network hop the app performs. All other processing — including the Apple Foundation Models rewrite pass and voice-note transcription — happens entirely on your device.

What we do not do

• No accounts. No sign-in. No email required.
• No servers we operate. No hosted database. No cloud sync.
• No analytics SDKs — no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Sentry.
• No advertising, no advertising SDKs, no ad networks, no in-app purchases.
• No third-party trackers of any kind.
• No data sold or shared. There is nothing to sell or share.

Permissions you can revoke

Any permission you grant can be revoked at any time from iOS Settings → My Actual Day. The app respects the revoked state on the next launch and stops reading that source.

Children

My Actual Day is not designed for or directed at children under 13. It contains no advertising, no messaging, no third-party links, and does not collect any personal information from any user, regardless of age.
